Transportation of cargo per rail performs by the different types of rolling stock. Depending on the type of cargo, body arrangement, methods of loading and unloading, and also the cargo safety, there are the different railway carriage such as: covered wagons, high-sided wagons, flat wagon, tank capacity, dumping wagons, hopper wagons and ref-wagons.

Covered wagons is using for the transportation of cargo to be protected from atmospherical condensation. The wagon body is the frame-floor construction with the roof and 4 walls. Loading and unloading in the universal performs via doors, located in side walls.

High-sided wagons are for the transportation of such cargo, which does not need the protection from atmospherical condensation. Because the wagons have not the roof, that is allow to mechanize the loading totally. For the transportation of bulk cargo there is a high-sided wagon with aperture in the floor, which permits to mechanize unloading of such cargo.

Hopper is the variety of high-sided wagon, using for the mass-transportation of fertilizing, cements, seed and other bulk cargos. For the protection from atmospherical condensation, the roofed hoppers with the loading aperture in the roof are using.

Flat wagon is using for the vehicles transportation, equipment, long goods and also bulk cargos, which do not need the protection from atmospherical condensation.
Container wagons have not any broadsides and arrange with the special locks for fastening high-capacity container of any types.
Flat wagons for wood carriage have a side walls and additional special legs, preventing the lading shift.

Tank wagon is using for transportation of wet cargo, condensed gas and powder material.

Hopper typed wagons – actually, the covered truck or covered hopper the only difference being, that on one frame is mounted some of storage tanks for specific bulk cargos (flour, petroleum bitumen, granular materials).

Dumpcar – is a dumping wagon. It is using for transportation and mechanical unloading bulk and large-sized cargos.

The basic freight wagon’s technical characteristics are:
Tare (dead load of empty wagon) lifting power (maximum value of weight cargo, which is available for transferring), capacity of body, square, length and other lines measurement.
